#7 Gestaltwandel - Redesign of the Flow Tower in Cologne
In this episode of Architektourist, we travel to Cologne, where the impressive Flow Tower – once a 1978 office building – has undergone a remarkable transformation. Located in Bayenthal, south of Cologne’s Old Town and directly on the Rhine, the building stood empty for 13 years before it was extensively converted into a residential building by JSWD Architekten from Cologne by 2017. The renovation included a complete core removal and the installation of a new facade with white, perforated metal parapet bands. The use of dry-construction methods resulted in significant weight savings, which in turn enabled the addition of balconies.
