How does one design a kindergarten that is not only bright and inviting but also meets the highest technical building requirements? In this episode, we are in Bramsche in Lower Saxony and presenting the St. Martin kindergarten, designed by Hüdepohl. Ferner Architektur- & Ingenieurgesellschaft.

The two-story building impresses with a clear concept, its orientation towards nature, and a well-thought-out connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. But the implementation of threshold-free doors and floor-to-ceiling windows posed the team an important question: How can a permanently watertight sealing of the doors be achieved with joint widths of only 35 millimeters? Together with Triflex, the architects found a solution: sealing with liquid plastic.

I speak with the architects Bernd Dopheide and Veit Stefener from the Hüdepohl. Ferner office about the concept of the kindergarten and the special construction challenges. Slava Schmidt, technical consultant at Triflex, explains… Explain how the liquid plastic waterproofing was used and why it was suitable for this project.
