#18 New Identity for Old Schools – School Renovations in Koblenz with Aluminum Facades
What happens when grey concrete buildings become modern, energy-efficient learning environments? In this episode, we discuss sustainable school renovations and show how the Ternes Architekten office in Koblenz, together with the manufacturer Kalzip, transforms existing school buildings into true eye-catchers.
Two special projects are in focus: the Görres Gymnasium and the Eichendorff Gymnasium in Koblenz. The Görres Gymnasium impresses with a facade renovation that harmoniously combines the protected 17th-century architecture of the building with a 1970s extension. At the Eichendorff Gymnasium, not only was energy efficiency optimized, but the building also received a completely new face through a well-conceived facade design – including a portrait of Joseph von Eichendorff.
We discuss the challenges of such projects, the advantages of the Kalzip FC facade system, and how a successful collaboration between architectural practices… Episode concludes and is successfully delivered by manufacturers.
