#20 Sand and honeycomb board – The ingredients for sound insulation in timber construction

How can a calm living and working atmosphere be created when noise from outside or inside threatens? In this episode, we discuss soundproofing in timber construction – a field that is becoming increasingly important due to the rising demand for sustainable building methods.

The focus is on a renovation project from the 1970s in Mainz. Architect Jan Dechow from the MIND AC office describes how he was able to implement soundproofing for the floor, walls, and ceiling using Wolf Bavaria products – including complete soundproofing of the roof.

You will learn how the PhoneStar soundproofing panels made from environmentally friendly materials like sand and corrugated cardboard work and why they are suitable for timber construction projects and renovations. We also take a look at the latest developments from Wolf Bavaria, such as the PhoneStar Finish, to be presented at BAU 2025 in Munich. We discuss its advantages in interior design, and why it’s a sustainable alternative to traditional drywall. Architektourist Podcast Episode:
